Keep cash local

Customers still want access to cash. According to the RBA’s 2025 Consumer Payments Survey, around 50 per cent of Australians use cash in a typical week, and 1 in 3 would face hardship or major inconvenience if cash became difficult to use. Around 1.5 million Australian adults rely mainly on cash.

At the same time, banks continue to rationalise their physical presence. Between June 2020 and June 2025, the number of bank branches fell by a third — from 4,769 to 3,205 — and bank-owned ATMs fell by almost half, from 9,621 to 5,143. Outside the major cities, branches fell by 22 per cent over the same period.

Dash fills that gap. An ATM at your venue means customers can access cash on-site, and your business keeps foot traffic that would otherwise go elsewhere.

Card surcharges banned from 1 October 2026

Since 1 October 2026, Australian businesses can no longer add a surcharge to debit, credit or prepaid card payments (Reserve Bank of Australia rule). The cost of accepting cards now sits with the business. Cash payments carry no card fees — for the customer or the business.

Frequently asked questions

How much does an ATM cost?

The cost depends on the model you choose, how many cassettes you need and the service level you want. The Argo is available as a single or multi-cassette machine with options for business-hours or Level 1 safe (24-hour) security. Our Argo FT through-the-wall machine suits higher-volume external placements. The right configuration for your venue will affect the overall cost. Contact Dash for a quote based on your specific requirements — we will talk you through the options.

Can I buy or lease an ATM rather than share revenue?

Yes. The Buy or Lease model gives you low-cost tiered pricing and full control over the machine and your own fees. If you would prefer a managed arrangement, the Partnership model operates on a revenue share basis. The Community ATM model is a third option where Dash provides the equipment and profits are reinvested.

What is included in Dash’s management service?

Dash handles installation, cash logistics and forecasting, automated transaction reconciliation, real-time fault monitoring, national field service and parts repair. You manage your ATM through the Dash web portal (portal.dashatm.com.au), which gives you status, cash orders and reporting in one place. ATMs connect via ADSL, NBN, 4G, Starlink or WiFi.

Does the ATM support contactless payments?

The Argo and Argo FT both support contactless and tap transactions. Customers can use their card or mobile device to authenticate at the ATM.

Can my venue’s branding appear on the ATM screen?

Yes. Dash ATMs support custom screen graphics and on-screen advertising. Your branding or venue advertising can be displayed on the idle screen.

What is a deposit-taking ATM and can my venue get one?

A deposit-taking ATM lets customers withdraw cash in the normal way while the venue owner uses the same machine to deposit their daily cash takings — removing the need for a separate branch visit. It is suited to high-cash-turnover venues such as petrol stations, shopping centres, pubs and clubs, particularly where a bank branch has closed or no longer accepts retail deposits. Access to the deposit function is available to approved businesses only and placement is subject to a qualification process. Contact Dash to discuss eligibility.

What comms options are available for the ATM?

Dash ATMs connect over any TCP/IP link: ADSL, NBN, 4G, Starlink or WiFi. We will advise on the best option for your site.

Is Dash’s ATM network secure and compliant?

All Dash ATMs are EMV, PCI and TLS 1.2 compliant and include countermeasures against malware, card skimming, black box and jackpotting attacks. The Argo runs a locked-down embedded operating system — only digitally signed software runs on the machine and security patches arrive with regular software updates. All machines managed by Dash operate within an AML/CTF compliance framework.
